S.Smith HH

Hi everybody,
Yesterday I got a drummer collective vid featuring Steve Smith, V.Wooten bass player and S.Gadd. Beautifull stuff !!!
S.Smith did a HH solo with some "B.Rich" tricks with his sticks and more...
I've been charmed by the way his HH sound and I'm wondering what's his exact HH setup and size during this performance (look like 14'').
I know he used to play a hybrid Zildjan HH.
Any more accurate informations ?

My guess is that he uses a 14" A Mastersound Bottom and a K Zildjian top.

I saw Steve a couple months ago in clinic and he said he was testing a new model from Zildjian that hasn't been released yet.

it's a K on top and an A Mastersound on Bottom, 14.(his set-up diagram appears on the "chops issue" of Modern Drummer, May 2003)

The best sounding "hybrid" IMO is Carter Beauford's with the 13 Z DynoBeat and the K on the bottom, tho in the "Making the Music" DVD with Victor Wooten he seemed to have changed for the A Custom's or A New-Beats 14?. Not to mention Carter's "hi hat" rhythms and linear syncopated broken down patterns are his signature sound within that music, it really mixes well IMO. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Bozzio, funny you mention about Carter's hi-hat cause I was just wondering what he was using.

I discovered (shame on me maybe) Carter Beauford and DMB...yesterday. A friend of mine lent me his "Under the table and drumming" video. I had never heard a single DMB song on radio before (they're just not known over here). Great music and what a beautiful and original player Carter is. He's very lucky to be able to play these grooves in a pop setting and have success.

And that hi-hat sound and style [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ...!!
